Election 2024: PMLN emerges as favourite in Punjab: IPOR survey

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has not only regained its lost popularity but the majority population of the Punjab province are posing trust in Nawaz Sharif to resolve country’s problems.

It was revealed in a survey conducted by Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) from January 11 to January 23, 2004, in which more than 3,000 respondents participated.

As compared to July 2018, when 32 percent respondents had termed PMLN as their favourite political party and showed their intent to cast votes to it, some 45 percent expressed their intent to cast their votes to PMLN in the recent survey conducted by IPOR. The survey shows that PMLN has regained its popularity level similar to 2013 elections.

Besides, 35 percent of the respondent in the recent survey expressed their intent to cast vote in favour of PTI, 8 percent to PPP, 5 percent to TLP, 2 percent to JI, 1 percent to IPP while 1 percent mentioned other political parties.

To a question as to which politician can steer country out of political and economic crisis, 45 percent posed their trust in Nawaz Sharif; 36 percent expressed confidence in Imran Khan; 6 percent, Bilawal Bhutto; 2 percent, Shehbaz Sharif; 1 percent, Maryam Nawaz; 1 percent, Jehangir Tareen; while 5 percent expressed trust in other leaders and 4 percent did not answer to the question.

Meanwhile, around 51 percent respondents foresee the victory of PMLN in general election and say that PMLN would make government in centre and Punjab both. However, some 34 percent are hopeful that PTI would form its government in Punjab and centre, while 7 percent think PPP would rule in centre and Punjab.
